$9 Million Awarded by the State for Projects in Franklin County
(COLUMBUS) September xx, 2024—As the lead entity for Franklin County, COCIC: The Franklin County Land Bank was awarded an additional $9 million from the Ohio Department of Development for the demolition of commercial, industrial and residential properties in Franklin County.
The funding announcement by Governor DeWine, Lieutenant Governor Husted and the Ohio Department of Development on September xx, 2024, is the second round of funding for the demolition grant. In January 2023, COCIC was awarded $21.6 million for six demolition projects.
“We want to thank the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and ODOD officials for leading efforts around the state to remove vacant, abandoned and blighted properties,” said Curtiss L. Williams, Sr., President/CEO of COCIC. “In Franklin County, these funds will help spark new development opportunities that will enhance our community by spurring new development.”
The following projects met the requirements set forth by ODOD and will be awarded grants:
- City of Columbus, Capri Lanes Bowling Alley
- City of Columbus, Central Presbyterian Church Annex
- City of Bexley, Continental Bexley Trinity Apartments
- City of Columbus, Jenkins Avenue Manufacturing Plant
- City of Dublin, Sawmill Road Fiesta Bar & Grille
- City of Columbus, Fifth Avenue Wendy’s
- City of Gahanna, Gahanna Mill Street Corridor
- City of Columbus, Huntington Office Building
- City of New Albany, Discover Call Center
- City of Columbus, Rich Street Warehouse and Commercial Buildings
- City of Columbus, Spaghetti Warehouse
- City of Columbus, Trabue Road Strip Mall
The grant award was part of the Ohio Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program, which provided nearly $150 million in grants for the demolition of commercial and residential buildings and the revitalization of surrounding properties in all 88 counties. As lead entity for Franklin County, COCIC was responsible for collecting and submitting qualified projects.
